We stayed at Rowan for two weeks in July 2023, myself and my husband have visited the Lake District many times over the last 25 years, staying all over the area in many types of accommodation.

Rowan I would describe as one of those “what if” destinations, insofar as you see it either in real life or on a website, and wonder what it would be like to stay somewhere like that… well it is as good as it looks.

Situated in the heart of Grasmere village, you are very close to all the amenities, great walks for all levels of fitness as the footpaths away and around the site are flat enabling all to enjoy.

However, Rowan itself is an idyll, once within the grounds you feel completely away from everything, panoramic views from the seating on the patio and the spacious bordered garden, inside the house itself, the accommodation is wonderfully thought out, the windows upstairs and down, make the most of the magnificent vista, the quality of the décor and furnishings is excellent yet still allows you to relax and enjoy.

The Kitchen, at the heart of the house, is so well equipped even the most ambitious cooks will have everything they need, looking out onto the dining area and the picture window, where we spent many hours enjoying the views in the comfy chairs for that purpose.

The Sitting room is spacious but cosy, a great place to spend the evening or a wet day!

The bedrooms, one on the ground floor, ideal for those not great with stairs, two upstairs, all are fitted out to a first-class standard, we slept in the master bedroom and I can only say the comfort of the bed and the wonderful bathroom were only enhanced by the views from the window.

I would like to thank the housekeeper Ilze, who is nothing short of amazing, she clearly cares about what she does and has very high standards, it shows in all the areas of the home.

Needless to say, I would highly recommend Rowan as a destination, its location and the house and gardens themselves will meet everyone’s needs, be they adventurous needing a resting place or those that want to take it easy and just appreciate the surroundings, we had both in our party

Matt and I would like to thank the Tempest Family for sharing this very special place with us, it made our visit to the lakes very memorable, so much so we are going back next year! can’t wait!

Secondly your fit, finish and attention to detail is the best we have seen and we take high end lettings every year all around the UK and Europe.

We’ve had a super family week together in a beautiful house with all ‘mod cons’ so well equipped and furnished – your detail to furnishing and supplying us with everything we needed – superb. Fantastic views – boys have loved the wild swimming!

Even the rain didn’t spoil our stay. The garden inspired me to tackle mine. Walking with Alpacas on the Lingholme Estate is a must for everyone to do.

Superb accommodation, simply could not fault it. Probably the best we have ever stayed in for both location and quality of the interior. The weather was kind to us, cold but mostly dry and even some sunshine allowing us to walk every day and there are some lovely walks. Heron Pike and Great Rigg is a good ridge walk from the village.
